FM stresses importance of reopening the Bulgarian Embassy in Baghdad

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hoshyar Zebari, and the Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikolay Mladenov, held official talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and stressed the importance of reopening the Bulgarian Embassy in Baghdad during the current days.

A statement by the he Ministry of Foreign Affairs recieved by IraqiNews.com cited “They also asserted keenness on activating the Joint Ministerial Committee and the start of its activities, in October, in Sofia after finishing the initial meetings of the Committee by the experts.”

Earlier, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hoshyar Zebari, received in Baghdad International Airport on last Wednesday, Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikolay Mladenov, and his accompanying delegation comprising Bulgarian businessmen.

“The Bulgarian Minister conveyed invitations from the Bulgarian Prime Minister to the Iraqi Prime Minister, invitations from Ministers of Transport and Agriculture to their Iraqi counterparts, and an invitation to the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee,” the statement added.

The statement continued “The two sides also reviewed Iraq’s relations with the European Union after signing the Cooperation and Partnership Agreement and the arrangements for the forthcoming visit of three foreign ministers of Sweden, Poland and Bulgaria to Baghdad in the coming period.”

“During the talks, the latest developments and the crisis in Syria were discussed in addition to the European and regional issues,” the statement assured.

“It is noteworthy that the Minister of Foreign Affairs held a luncheon honoring the Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and the delegation accompanying him,” the statement concluded.
