Talabani stresses settling disputes through dialogues
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) While receiving the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq, Martin Kobler, the President, Jalal Talabani, stressed “Settling the disputes through activating the dialogues among the political sides and by adhering to the constitution in addition to implementing the former agreements concluded among blocs.”
Presidential statement received by IraqiNews.com cited “Talabani received Kobler and the accompanied delegation at his office in Sulaimaniya province and discussed with them the means of developing Iraq’s relations with the UN in all aspects.”
“Both sides discussed political updates and the efforts that aim at eliminating the current crisis and tensions among the political sides,” the statement added.
“Talabani shed the light on the current political disputes which hurdle the political process, confirming that he has performed his duties as the President and protector for the constitution by reducing the tension among the sides of the crisis,” the statement continued.
“For his part, Kobler confirmed that the UN is going on in its support for the Iraqis to accomplish the national partnership, praising Talabani’s crucial role in defending the political process,” the statement concluded.
Earlier, the President Jalal Talabani assured, on last Saturday night, that the number of the MPs who have signed a request to withdraw confidence from the Premier Nouri al-Maliki reached only 160 MPs which is less than the required number limited by 163.
The political sides which held a meeting in Erbil on last Sunday decided to send “A clarifying message to confirm that the signatures collected for withdrawing confidence from the Premier, Nouri al-Maliki, are constitutionally suffesient and valid.
It is worth mentioning that the head of the Iraqiya Slate, Ayad Allawi, the Speaker, Osama al-Nijaifi, and the Deputy Premier, Salih al-Mutleg, participated in a meeting in Nineveh to discuss the efforts for withdrawing confidence from the Premier, Nouri al-Maliki.
