Haidari: Objective, subjective reasons behind postponing local elections in Kurdistan Region

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The head of the Independent High Electoral Commission, Faraj al-Haidari, stated that “Postponing the local elections in Kurdistan Region were for objective and subjective reasons.”

In a press statement, received by IraqiNews.com, he said “The subjective issue is the remaining time in the term of the IHEC which makes it hard to set the supervision on the time set for the elections in addition to the troubles that the IHEC is currently facing.”

“The IHEC is obliged to follow the law and prepare the electoral merits since it has the authorities to do so,” he added.

“Endorsing the laws is to be done by legislative authority, but setting the time for the election is to be done by the executive authorities and it is responsible for postponing them too,” he stressed.

“The IHEC will commit to the time tables set by the executive authorities concerning any electoral merit,” he concluded.
