Amendments will not bring Christians home – Kurdish MP

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The h ead of the Kurdistan Alliance in the Iraqi Parliament on Monday said that amending the provincial elections law will deprive Christians from having a suitable representation in the councils of Baghdad, Ninewa and Basra, and thus will not encourage displaced Christians to return home. “I hope that those mistakes would be corrected,” Lawmaker Foad Maasom said in a press conference in Baghdad. Earlier, Iraqi legislatures had to choose among three options, but 106 of them out of 150 who attended the parliament’s voting session voted for one seat for minorities (including Christians) at each of the councils of Baghdad, Ninewa, and Basra provinces.   MH (P)/SR   1
