Talabani urges for stoppage of media provoking statements

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Late on Thursday, the Office of the President Jalal Talabani issued a statement which called upon political blocs to stop media campaigns and the adoption of the Constitution as a reference and the commitment with the agreements concluded by the Government of the partnership.

The statement cited that “Performing his constitutional duties, the President Jalal Talabani, exerted during the recent period intensive efforts and held numerous meetings with senior leaders and officials of the country, parliamentary blocs and political parties.”

“The President Talabani called on all parties to make the interests of the country and its citizens above any interest or other considerations.”

In light of these consultations the President of the Republic calls for:

1. Stopping media campaigns mutually and adopt constructive dialogue to limit and end the differences.

2. Adoption of the Constitution as a reference for judgment and show commitment to the agreements concluded as a base for forming the current Partnership Government, including Erbil convention of 2010.

3. Commitment and adherence to the basic principle upon which the current government stands upon which is the principle of true partnership in the management of power and responsibility.

4. Ensuring the independence of the electoral system as a cornerstone for democracy and provide all the supplies to ensure free and fair elections for provincial councils in 2013 and the parliament in 2014.

5. The referral of cases for determining the service cycles of senior officials in the state to the parliament to consider the proposals on them within the framework of the Constitution.

6. The constant adhering to the principle of separation among powers and the maintenance of independence of the judiciary and speed up the ratification of the Federal Court.

7. Support and strengthen all the institutions that ensure the independence and development of democracy.

8. Complete the implementation of the commitments set forth in the Constitution and the approval of necessary laws and key legislations such as the oil and gas law.
