New DSRSG arrives in Baghdad

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The United Nation Assistance Mission in Iraq announced that the Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq in Development and Humanitarian Affairs, Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Iraq, and Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Ms. Jacqueline Badcock arrived at UNAMI Headquarters in Baghdad, to take up her duties on 13 May 2012.

“I am delighted to join the UN family in Iraq to support the UN Country Team to work cohesively in the spirit of delivering as one, and to actively contribute towards the Government and the people of Iraq through the delivery of technical assistance and capacity development activities at a juncture in time when the country is going through a transition towards a more peaceful and prosperous nation”, said DSRSG Badcock upon her arrival in Baghdad.

She added that she looked forward to working closely with the Iraqi Government, state institutions, international and national NGOs, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Iraqi Red Crescent Society and civil society to collectively fulfill the mandates of the UN in Iraq to ensure a safe, prosperous and peaceful future for all citizens of Iraq.

A statement by UNAMI received by Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com) cited “Ms. Badcock was officially appointed by the UN Secretary-General as his Deputy Special Representative for Iraq, Resident/Humanitarian Coordinator and the UNDP Resident Representative on 8 March 2012.”

The statement added “Prior to her assignment in Iraq, Ms. Badcock was the UNDP Resident Representative and UN Resident Coordinator in the Philippines from August 2009.
