Wassit morgue receives 2 unknown bodies

WASSIT, Sept. 21 (Iraqi News) – The al-Zahraa hospital morgue on Sunday received two unidentified bodies of civilian men after they were restored from a river in northern Wassit province, a morgue source in Kut city said. “The two bodies were salvaged from a river north of al-Suwayra district, (135 km) north of Kut, as reported by the police,” the source, who declined to have his name mentioned, told IraqiNews.com – Voices of Iraq – (Iraqi News). “The bodies were decomposed and showed signs of having been tortured,” the source said, adding the signs shown on the bodies were not registered in the morgue books as usual due to their decay, having remained in the river water for a long time. A Shiite province, Wassit, 180 km south of Baghdad, is in the east of the country. Its name comes from the Arabic word meaning “middle,” as it lies along the Tigris about midway between Baghdad and Basra. Its major cities include the capital, al-Kut, and al-Hayy.
