Blocs Leaders against electronic voting, says Parliamentary Integrity Committee

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP Hussain al-Asadi of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee said that some political blocs refused the electronic voting and would like to keep the manually way because it serves their interests because the electronic voting will not allow them to know who voted.

Al-Asadi stated to (IraqiNews.com) that “The Kurdish blocs are one of the biggest opponents to the electronic voting, they rejected applying this system more than once,” adding that “The leaders of some blocks do not want the electronic voting because some of the blocs’ leaders directed their members in the Parliament to vote in this direction or that which affects the choices of the MPs.”

“There was a strong desire to adapt the electronic voting system, it applied for some time until the presidency of the House of Representatives noted that some MPs do not attend to the Council and that other MPs vote instead of them through their electronic cards,” noting that “This issue made the Presidency of the Parliament to suspend this system and reapply the manual voting,” al-Asadi added.

Al-Asadi also mentioned that “In the meeting with the leaders of the political committees and blocs a the electronic fingerprint voting system was suggested so no one can vote instead of someone else,” adding that “The delay in constructing the electronic fingerprint prevented the implementation of it, forcing the Council to go back to manual voting.”

“There are three types of voting; positive, negative and reservation,” the electronic voting shows to us the preservative votes, but manual vote do not show it,” al-Asadi noted.
