AQI leader detained in Baaquba

DIALA / IraqiNews.com: An amir (leader) of al-Qaeda in Iraq was arrested in central Baaquba city on Friday on charges of involvement in a car bombing attack, a senior police official in Diala said. “Policemen conducted search raids in different areas of Baaquba, arresting an amir of al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI),” Maj. General Abdelhussein al-Shimari, the Diala police chief, told IraqiNews.com. “The man was arrested on charges of involvement in a car bombing attack that targeted the local council building in central Baaquba nearly a month ago, which left scores of people killed or wounded,” Shimari said. He did not reveal the named of the arrested man or any other details about him. Baaquba, the capital city of Diala, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad. AmR (P) 1
