Diwaniya (IraqiNews.com) The Minister of Electricity, Abdul Karim Aftan, announced that “Iraq will reach a phase of self-sufficiency in electricity production sector by the end of 2013.” In a press conference held after the ceremony of inaugurating two power stations in Diwaniya province, attended by the Deputy PM, Hussein al-Shahristani, and (IraqiNews.com) reporter, Aftan said “Iraq will reach the phase of self-sufficiency in the electricity production sector.” “The coming few hours will witness inaugurating power emergency station in Karbla province also a similar station will be inagurated in Maysan province on next Monday,” the Minister added. The Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs al-Shahristani with the Minister of Electricity has inaugurated today, Sunday, 2 power generating stations in Diwaniya province. The production capacity of both stations is (400) MW, 200 MW for each. The S. Korean (STX) Co. has announced in last November 2011, “Starting the work to implement the 2 electricity generating stations of total capability 400 MW and cost of ($ 232 million.
