20 arrested in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraqi security forces detained 20 persons and seized arms and munitions in operations in different areas of the Iraqi capital during the past 24 hours, an official security source said. “Security forces detained 16 wanted persons and four suspects during operations conducted throughout Baghdad during the past 24 hours,” Maj. General Qassem Atta, the official spokesman for the Baghdad Operations Command (BOC), told IraqiNews.com. “Forty-nine displaced families were brought back to their original dwelling places in Baghdad,” Atta said. The Iraqi security forces, backed by Multi-National Force (MNF) troops, have been carrying out a large-scale security operation codenamed Fardh al-Qanoon (law imposing) since February 2007 with the objective of bringing back order and security to a capital city scarred by attacks targeting civilians and Iraqi security forces.
