1st Arab conference over waters to be held in Baghdad

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Iraq declared the preparations for holding the first Arab conference for Waters in Baghdad on next May 2012.


A statement by Ministry of Water Resources to Iraqi News cited “The ministry in cooperation with the Arab Council of Ministers for waters which is related to the Arab League will hold the first conference of the Arab Council for Waters under the slogan (Implementing the International Law to protect Arab rights in mutual water resources) in Baghdad from 30-31 of May 2012.”


The statement added “The conference will emphasize the subject of sharing the common waters and drawing just allocations for each country.”


The statement mentioned “The conference will include 4 subjects represented by the international common rivers in International Law, studying and criteria of dividing the international common water resources, Arab countries experiences in treating the joint waters and the fourth is searching how to manage the Arab water resources in the Arab countries.”


“There will be a seminar session within the conference concerning the Arab countries’ viewpoints about the UN agreement for the utilization of the International Water Resources Law for 1997,” the statement concluded.
