Armed group member captured in Samarra

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraqi security forces detained on Monday a leading member of the so-called Islamic State of Iraq in the city of Samarra, a police source in Salah al-Din province said. “Iraqi forces arrested Mallouk Jumaa al-Jarrad in Samarra while handing a sum of money to one of his followers,” the source told IraqiNews.com. “Jarrad is a very important intelligence operative in the Islamic State of Iraq group and is responsible for several terrorist activities,” the source added. The self-styled Islamic State of Iraq, announced in October 2006, is a group composed of seven armed organizations, most prominent of them is al-Qaeda in Iraq. The group, led by a man of the name Abu Omar al-Boghdadi, is active in central and western Iraq provinces. Samarra is 55 km south of Tikrit, the capital city of Salah al-Din province, 175 km north of Baghdad. AmR (P)/SR 1
