British commercial delegation visits Sulaimaniya

SULAIMANIYA / IraqiNews.com: A British commercial delegation will visit Sulaimaniya on Wednesday to discuss commercial cooperation between Britain and Kurdistan region, the deputy chairman of the Sulaimaniya Chamber of Commerce and Industry said. “The British delegation will stay for two days in Sulaimaniya and will meet with Governor Dana Ahmed Majid to discuss some projects,” Sirwan Mohamed told IraqiNews.com. “The delegation arrived yesterday in Arbil and will arrive in Sulaimaniya today,” he said, noting that the delegation will meet on Thursday with the Kurdish Interior Minister Othman Haji Mahmoud and will hold a meeting with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Sulaimaniya. The modern city of Sulaimaniya, 364 kilometers north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, was founded in 1748 by a Kurdish prince known as Ibrahim Pasha Baban who named it for his father Sulaiman Pasha. Since being founded as the capital of a powerful Kurdish principality it has grown to about 1,800,000 people. Sulaimaniya, known as Zamwa prior to its founding, is the cultural center of the Sorani-speaking Kurds and an important economic centre for Iraqi Kurdistan. SH (S) 1
