Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The office of the Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, considered the targeting of the Secretary General of Sunni Fatwa Commission, Mahdi al-Sumaidyi, and his guards by the terrorists as “A new attempt and plan to create sedition,” noting that “The terrorist target the innocents according to chosen targets in order to create sedition and eliminate all the national figures.”

A statement by Maliki’s office received by IraqiNews.com on Sunday cited “We strongly condemn this crime and assured our confidence over the awareness of the citizens of the criminal plots and their aims where we will follow those criminals to eliminate them from the countries wherever they are.”

Earlier, Sumaidyi was injured in western Baghdad on Sunday.

Security source stated to IraqiNews.com “An Improvised Explosive Device exploded targeting Sumaidyi’s motorcade in al-Yarmouk neighborhood,” noting that “The explosion resulted in injuring four among Sumaidyi’s guards and killing a civilian as well.”

“The injured were sent to the hospital for treatment and the dead body to the morgue,” the source concluded.
