Security pact will not affect the region – Barazani
ARBIL / IraqiNews.com: President of the Iraqi Kurdistan region on Wednesday said that the proposed Iraqi-U.S. security pact will not affect the situation in the region, neither positively nor negatively, explaining that Kurds refuse to form support councils at dispute areas. “U.S. forces have no presence in Kurdistan, but the pact will offer a political and military cover for Iraq; that is why we believe it contributes to the Iraqi interest,” Barazani said in a press conference in Arbil that was attended by IraqiNews.com. “Kurds refuse to form support councils in Kurdistan, and they consider those councils in the disputed areas as a source of disturbance,” he added.
