MP criticizes Integrity Commission role in fighting financial, administrative corruption

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP Aziz al-Egaili, of the Citizen bloc, also a member in the Parliamentary Integrity Committee, assured that “The administrative and financial corruption rates rise in all the State’s institutions,” attributing this to “the poor management of the Integrity Commission and inspector general’s weak role as they are subject to the ministers’ control.”

Egaili stated to IraqiNews.com “There is a clear negligence in the performance of the supervision departments within the Commission of Integrity which is not suitable to the size of the corruption that spreads in all the ministries and governmental Directorates.”

“The main reason behind this spread of corruption is the repulsive routine between the Institutions in one hand and the Personnel of the Integrity Commission on the other hand,” he added.

“The Head of the Integrity Commission shares both of the Integrity Commission in addition to the Property Claims Commission,” he added, confirming “This is fatal defect as he will not be able to run the two Commissions at one time; therefore, they should be separated.”

“The Parliamentary Integrity Committee suggested that the Inspector General should be granted more independence to practice his work freely and away from the ministers’ control and their interference,” he stressed.
