Turkey shells PKK targets despite ceasefire
ARBIL / IraqiNews.com: Turkey has launched fresh air and artillery strikes against the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in northern Iraq despite a unilateral ceasefire announced by the party on the occasion of Eidul-Adha, or the Greater Bairam, according to a party spokesperson. “Turkey has begun a massive shelling of our positions, but we will abide by what we said,” a relations official in the PKK, Ahmed Daneez, told IraqiNews.com. The PKK had declared a nine-day unilateral ceasefire as of last Monday with the Turkish forces on the occasion of Eidul-Adha in an initiative to open a dialogue with Ankara, according to a party official.
