Human Rights Committee denies reports over executing 200 convicted persons

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Parliamentary Committee of Human Rights denied the reports over implementing death penalty against 200 convicted persons on Wednesday.

Ashwaq al-Jaaf, the member in the Committee confirmed that “We contacted the Minister of Justice, Hassan al-Shimmari, who denied such reports.”

“There are two types of death penalty, the first one is related to terrorism charges which is something inevitable, in addition to the death sentence against kidnapping on condition that the kidnapping will not lead to murder, hence, the waiver of the kidnapped person for his rights could grant amnesty to the kidnapper especially we are about to vote on the General Amnesty Law in the Parliament,” she added.

It is worth to mention that the Human Rights Committee conferred, on Wednesday, about the wait to implement the death penalty verdicts against the convicted individuals, as well as discussing the draft law of freedom of expression.
