JFO urges journalist’s release

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Journalistic Freedoms Observatory (JFO) on Thursday urged the Iraqi president and concerned authorities in the Kurdistan region to intervene to secure the release of the editor-in-chief of a Kurdish newspaper, who is currently in detention in Sulaimaniya city. “The Press Syndicate’s observatory calls on President Jalal Talabani to intervene to overturn a Sulaimaniya Court ruling against Shawan al-Dawoudy, the editor-in-chief of Hah Wal Newspaper…,” according to a statement released by the observatory and received by IraqiNews.com. A court ruling has sentenced Dawoudy to jail and ordered him to pay an ID300,000 fine for libel. SS (P) 1
