Support councils neither armed groups nor militias – MP

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Member of the Unified Iraqi Alliance (UIA) Shiite parliamentary bloc on Thursday said that support councils are neither armed groups nor militias, but have been formed to support security forces. “Support councils are not partisan, and all clans can participate in them,” lawmaker Ali al-Adeeb told IraqiNews.com. “I think that fears of those councils are due to elections issue,” he said. “Kurds are inaccurate in understanding the mission of support councils,” he added. The UIA is the biggest parliamentary bloc, as it occupies 83 out of 275 of Iraq’s council of representatives. MH (P)/SR 1
