Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Minister of Justice, Hasan al-Shimmari, pointed out that “Only the legislative authority has the right to stop implementing the death penalties issued by the judicial sides.”

The spokesman of the Ministry of Justice, Haider al-Saadi, stated to IraqiNews.com “Shimmari received the assistant of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Iraq, Martin Kobler, and confirmed to him that seizing the implementation of the death penalties issued by the judicial sides is among the authorities of the parliament.”

“He assured that the Ministry of Justice is obliged to implement the Iraqi laws,” the statement concluded.

Earlier the United Nations Assistance Mission to Iraq expressed concerns over implementing the death penalty in Iraq calling to stop implementing death verdicts.
