Basra MPs to pressurize parliament to endorse Basra Economic Capital law, says MP
Basra (IraqiNews.com) MP, Adil al-Maliki, of Basra province announced that “Basra MPs will go on pressurizing the parliament to endorse law draft of Basra as Economic Capital of Iraq which was launched as an initiative by the head of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council, Ammar al-Hakim, previously.”
Speaking to Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com), he said “Basra Parliamentary bloc, which is formed previously, found through the cooperation among Basra MPs that Basra is not treated fairly in the political process.”
“This law was presented by Citizen bloc and enlisted among the agenda of the Legal Committee where the parliament conducted the first reading of the law but the government asked to postpone it,” he added.
“The fault of Basra citizens and I am one of them is that they did not defend their province and they do not have a unified stance to support Basra which is a main province in providing the revenues for Iraq,” he concluded.
Earlier, the head of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council, Ammar al-Hakim, launched an initiative under the title of “Basra, the Economic Capital of Iraq”, calling for “Establishing a governmental city in which the presidencies, ministries and state institutions are represented in order that the presidents, ministers, Deputies and senior officials spend months in this city.”
