SFC rejects appeal against Journalists Rights law

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Supreme Federal Court decided to reject the lawsuit which was filed against the Journalist Rights Law Draft no, 21 of 2011 because the law is compatible with the context of the Constitution and other laws.

The judiciary reported in statement received by IraqiNews.com on Tuesday that ”The Federal Court held its session headed by the chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council Judge Medhat al-Mahmoud and the attendance of its members to consider the appeal lawsuit filed against the journalists rights’ law draft,” noting that “The Court decided unanimously to reject the lawsuit because the law is compatible with the context of the Constitution and the law of the Journalist Syndicate no.78 of 1969.”

The statement added that ”The court considered its resolution embodying for the law article no. 38 of the Constitution which ensures the freedom of opinion and journalism and it does not oppose the law of the Journalists Syndicate no. 78 of 1969,” stressing that ”The two laws are compatible with each other for the benefit of the journalists.”

The Defense of Journalism Freedom Association has filed a lawsuit to appeal the Journalists Rights law to the Federal Court and received a receipt of the federal case numbered 110 of 2011. \
