Tikrit prison escapee captured in Diwaniya

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) A security force captured one of the prisoners who escaped from Tikrit Tasfirat Prison while he was trying to enter Diwaniya city on Wednesday.

Security source stated to IraqiNews.com “A force from Daghara Checkpoint in Diwaniya province managed to arrest the escapee prisoner who fled from Salah-il-Din province.”

A group of gunmen, with assistance of prisoners, controled Tasfirat Prison in Tikrit, and kept the Manager of the Prison, Colonel Laith al-Sakmani, and six injured guards as hostages.

The gunmen managed to seize and control a weapons cache stored inside the prison, but later Security Forces managed to control the situation.

Several prisoners managed to escape from the prison during the riots and clashes.
