Hakim to Wahidi: \"Dialogue to settle Syrian crisis\"

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The head of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council Ammar al-Hakim stressed, during his meeting with the Iranian Defense Minister, Ahmed Wahidi in Baghdad on Thursday, that “The Syrian file would be settled through dialogue rather than military means,” assuring that “Iraq’s chairmanship for the Arab League and Iran’s chairmanship for the Non- Aligned States represent a vital opportunity for cooperation between Iraq and Iran to solve the problems on the region.”

A statement by the SIIC quoted Hakim as saying to Wahidi “Iraq with its history and revenues chose to be a point for meeting for the rivals in the region.”

Hakim wished that “Wahidi’s visit to Baghdad, which is the first for an Iranian Defense Minister to Iraq since 50 years, would help to promote the bilateral relations between Iraq and Iran on the security level.”

For his part, Wahidi appreciated Hakim’s role and participation of the SIIC in bringing together different views of the rivals on the Iraqi arena.
