Shallah: Parliament responsible for delay of national anthem law draft

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Media and Culture Parliamentary Committee attributed the delay in endorsing the law draft of the national anthem of Iraq to the repeated postponements of parliament’s sessions.

The Head of the Committee, Ali al-Shalah, reported to IraqiNews.com on Friday that ”The endorsement of the Iraqi flag and anthem was delayed for the continued postponement of the Parliament sessions due to the deabtes over Infrastructure law draft,” pointing that ”We are prepared for conducting the second reading of the Iraqi anthem law draft.”

He clarified “There are three texts for the national anthem and the Parliament will chose one of them.”

He added that ”We think that this matter should get an exceptional priority and not to be handled as any common law since the poetic texts are not specific law to stick on,” stressing that ”The Parliament should respect the greatness and the importance of the poets who were chosen to write the poetic texts.”

He pointed out that ”The committee will submit the national Iraqi anthem to the Parliament,” noting that “The Iraqi flag law draft will follow the Iraqi anthem law draft.” \
