Sadr: Government interference in CBI to ruin Iraqi Economy

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The head of the Sadr Trend, Muqtada al-Sadr, assured that “The government interference in the performance of the Central Bank of Iraq without a sound justification will ruin the Iraqi Economy.”

A statement by Sadr’s office received by IraqiNews.com cited “The Iraqi Economy is threatened due to the interference of the Premier, Nouri al-Maliki, in the performance of the CBI.”

It is worth mentioning that the Council of Ministers tasked the head of the Financial Supervision Department, Abdul Basit Turki, to run the Iraqi Central Bank as a substitute for the current Governor of the CBI, Sinan al-Shibibi.

“Sadr called the Iraqi Parliament to save the Iraqi Economy,” the statement added.

Separately, Sadr criticized “The armament contracts made by the Government with Russia and Czech Republic,” describing these contracts as “Wasting the Iraq money.”

He called “The parliament to investigate these contracts.”

Earlier, the Premier, Nouri al-Maliki, announced that his visit to Russia comes to make contracts for buying weapons for the Iraqi Army and to consolidate the military cooperation between the two countries.
