Gen Tamimi justifies formation of DOC

Diyala, Baquba (IraqiNews.com) The Head of the Security Committee of Diyala Provincial Council, Muthana al-Tamimi, stated that ”Dijla Operations Command is similar to the Mid- Euphrates Operations Command and it aims to protect the society from threats of terrorism.”

Tamimi added in statement to IraqiNews.com on Sunday ”The office of the commanding general of the armed forces is authorized to form Dijla operations command,” noting that ”Dijla operations command aims to protect the citizens from the threats of the terrorist groups.”

He pointed out ”We reject reports of some media outlets which instigate the citizens against the DOC which aims only to provide protection for people.”

The Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has appointed the commander of Diyala Operations Command, Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Al-Zaydi to assume the command of the operations in three provinces of Diyala, Salah-il-Din and Kirkuk under the name of Dijla Operations Command to coordinate among the provinces and maintain the security and safety in these provinces.

The Kurdish forces refused, in its meeting which was headed by the President of Kurdistan Region Massud Barzani, the formation of DOC and demanded to cancell it.

Kirkuk provincial council also refused to link the formations of the interior and defense ministries with Dijla operations command because Kirkuk is among the disputed areas. \
