Senior officer killed in Basra blast

BASRA / IraqiNews.com: A high-ranking police officer on Tuesday was killed in a blast that also wounded his driver in western Basra province. “An improvised explosive device (IED) stuck to the vehicle of Col. Majeed al-Basri went off in al-Zubeir area, killing him and wounding his driver,” a security source told IraqiNews.com news agency. The officer was a member of the internal border police. The Shiite province of Basra lies 590 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. SS (P) 1
