Human Rights Committee, Canadian embassy discuss mutual interest
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP Azhar al-Sheikhli of the Parliamentary Human Rights Committee discussed with representative of the Canadian embassy to Iraq, Stefan Dohim, files related to human rights.
A statement by the Committee cited that “Sheikhli stressed, during the meeting, the role of international community in supporting the human rights file as it concerns all the social components.”
She confirmed “The influential role of women in the society where they must be granted wider representation in the political life and develop them economically socially and culturally as well as combating the violence against them through legislating the relevant laws.”
“The meeting also discussed the execution penalty where Dohim expressed the concerns of the international community towards this issue, calling to find other alternatives for this sentence that suits the humanitarian side,” according to the statement.
