Zebari meets Ambassadors of Five Permanent Members of UN’s Security Council
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zebari, met the at the Ministry’s headquarters, the Ambassadors of the Five Permanent Members of the UN Security Council accredited to Iraq.
A statement by the Foreign Ministry received by IraqiNews.com on Monday cited ” Zebari reviewed the efforts exerted by Iraq and the support provided by the members of the council to release Iraq from the Seventh Chapter of the UN’s Charter in relation to the disarmament, weapons of mass destruction, the penal system, the blockade, and oil for food program.”
“Zebari asked the Ambassadors to support Iraq’s request to be released from the Seventh Chapter of the UN’s Charter by terminating the mandate of the Special Coordinator for Missing Kuwaitis and properties and to shift the file from the Seventh Chapter to the Sixth Chapter,” the statement added.
The statement pointed out “Zebari stressed that Iraq is committed bilaterally or through UNAMI to continue searching and revealing the remaining missing persons and properties and through bilateral and field cooperation with Kuwait.”
“Zebari also stressed Iraq’s desire to fulfill all its international obligations towards the Security Council, as it is also keen to maintain Iraqi national interests,” the statement concluded.
