INA calls to lift immunity of MP, Ahmed al-Alwani, for describing "Shiite as pigs"

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Iraqi National Alliance called to apply Article 7 of the constitution concerning MP, Ahmed al-Alwani, for describing Shiite as pigs.

MP, Ali al-Allaq, assured in a press conference held by INA at the parliament building “INA calls Parliament Chairmanship to apply Article 7 of the constitution concerning MP, Ahmed al-Alwani, for describing Shiite as pigs during an interview with Baghdad Satellite Channel.”

“The Shiite and Sunni people in Iraq are unified and will not be separated due to such statements,” he added.

“We call the Iraqiya Slate to condemn such statements to show that it does not adopt this stance,” he concluded.

Article 7 of the Constitution involves “Any entity or method adopts, supports, promotes or exalts racial discrimination, terrorism or sectarian violence is to be banned.

Earlier, a Parliamentary Committee was formed to investigate the statements of MP, Ahmed Alwani, of the Iraqiya Slate in which he accused the Shiite in Iraq as being “Agents and pigs.”

A source from the Iraqi National Alliance stated to IraqiNews.com “The committee was formed to make sure of Alwani’s statements during an interview with Baghdad Satellite Channel where he described Shiite as agents of Iran and they are pigs and coward.”

“If Alwani’s statement were proved, he will be dismissed from the parliament and his membership will be canceled according to Article 7 of the constitution,” he added.

“The Committee will address the Communication and Media Commission and the mentioned Channel to investigate the statements,” he continued.

“The Committee involved the head of the INA, Ibraheem al-Jaafary, the head of the Citizen bloc, Baqir Jabur al-Zubaidi, and the head of the State of Law Coalition bloc, Khalid al-Atiya as well as the head of the Iraqiya Slate bloc, Salman al-Jumaili, in addition to MP, Ahmed al-Msari and Haider al-Mulla,” he concluded.
