Babel conf. urges facilities for investors
BABEL / IraqiNews.com: A conference in Babel province on Monday called on the local government to offer facilities for investors and change investment-impeding laws that are still effective. “The conference tackled obstacles facing local investment in Babel,” said Salah Bahiya, the director of the Babel Center for Business Community Development, in statements to IraqiNews.com news agency. The event was organized by the center in association with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and the Iraq National Investment Commission (INIC). The conference, said Bahiya, came up with several recommendations, including the formation of an INIC committee and relevant organizations to deal with lease and ownership issues, lands allocated for investment and rehabilitation of projects in accordance with the investment law. “The recommendations also included calls to establish private-sector joint-stock companies and the opening of the Babel securities market,” he said.
