Hakim, US Ambassador discuss political updates
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The head of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council, Ammar al-Hakim, and the US Ambassador, Robert Bikroft, to Iraq discussed the political updates in the country.
A statement by the SIIC received by IraqiNews.com cited “Hakim received Bikroft in Baghdad on Thursday, calling the political sides to avoid escalating the crisis.”
“The escalation will not serve the unity of Iraq and will negatively affect the region,” the statement added.
“Hakim stressed adopting dialogue and depending on the constitution to solve the crisis,” the statement continued, assuring “Bikroft praised Hakim’s call, considering it as the best solution for the current crisis.”
“Both sides also discussed the means of upgrading bilateral relations between the two countries,” the statement concluded.
The Iraqi political scene witnesses escalated crisis among the political blocs over issues related to the partnership and other key issues especially between the Iraqiya Slate and the State of Law Coalition in one hand in addition to the disputes between the Kurdistani Regional Government and Central Government on the other hand.
The crisis led to demonstrations conducted in a number of provinces calling for releasing the women detainees and the prisoners, canceling Justice and Accountability Law as well as Article 4 of Anti-Terrorism Law in addition to ensuring the balance and other demands.
