2 gunmen arrested in Kirkuk

KIRKUK / IraqiNews.com: Two gunmen believed to have been involved in several kidnaps on Monday were arrested during a security operation in western Kirkuk city, according to a local police source. “During an early hour this morning, a force from the Asayesh (Kurdish security) department detained two gunmen in al-Amal al-Shaabi area, western Kirkuk,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency. “On January 1, 2009, the gunmen kidnapped Mohammed Abdullah Mohammed, otherwise known as Mohammed Shishani, who managed to escape at a late hour yesterday evening and reported them to the police,” the source added. Kirkuk, an oil rich and mixed city of Kurds, Turkmen, Christians and Arabs, lies 250 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. SS (P) 1
