MP describes calls to postpone elections as of "Political purposes"

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP, Iqbal al-Ghurabi, of al-Ahrar bloc within the Sadr Trend stated “The statements released by some in Anbar province over postponing the elections and not allowing the Independent High Electoral Commission to do its tasks are for political purposes to keep the current officials in their posts.”

In a press statement received by IraqiNews.com on Tuesday, she said “the decision of Anbar Provincial Council of postponing the elections and canceling the IHEC in the province is a wrong and illegal procedure where the IHEC is approved by the parliament and not by Anbar PC.”

“Al-Ahrar bloc will not allow canceling the IHEC in the province and no one has the right to replace the federal government,” she added, noting that “such decision is made for personal interests to keep the current officials in their posts.’

Earlier, Anbar PC called the IHEC to postpone the elections in the province for security reasons.
