Turkey sentences Barzani’s nephew to 7 years in prison

(IraqiNews.com) Turkish court sentenced the Premier of Kurdistan Region, Masoud Barzani’s nephew to seven years and a half in prison over charges related to smuggling weapons into Turkey.

Turkish (Hurriya) newspaper published that “Matin Barzani, Kurdistan Region Premier’s nephew was sentenced to seven years and a half in prison due on smuggling 2500 hunting rifle’s bullets illegally to Turkey.”

Barzani, 26, who resides in Austria, arrived to Aspala crossing at Greek-Turkish borders on December, 2012 where the borders’ guards found out the bullets in his laptop’s bag, then he was brought to the Turkish authorities for investigations.

The Turkish authorities stressed that the usage of such bullets is illegal in Turkey.
