Iraq hands Qatar presidency of Arab League

(IraqiNews.com) Qatar received from Iraq the presidency of the preparatory meetings of the Arab League activities which started in Doha in recent.

Qatar was handed over the chairmanship of the 24th Arab League’s round during the opening session of the preparatory economic and social council to prepare for the economic and social file submitted to the Arab League in preparation for forwarding it to the Arab ministers of Finance and Economy on next Friday.

Hashim Mohamed Hatam, Director of the Economic Relations Department within the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said on Thursday “This meeting coincides with a lot of international and regional developments which led to weakening the Arab position in terms of the coordination of the national policies and the predominance of the unilateral trends in dealing with the modifications on the international scene.”

Hatam called on “The institutions of the mutual Arabic action to play active role in bringing the Arabic environment out of this situation into a state of coordination in the economic policies in order to positively deal with the world economic developments.”

Iraq had chaired the 23th Arab League’s round which was held in Baghdad in March, 2012.
