Wassit council rejects mechanism for appointing police chief
WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: The head of Wassit’s provincial council on Saturday said that it rejects the mechanism whereby a new police chief has been appointed in the province. “During their meeting on Saturday, members of the provincial council expressed their rejection of the mechanism whereby a new police chief has been appointed,” Mohammed Hassan Jabir told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The rejection is not related to the new commander himself, but to the mechanism whereby he has been appointed,” Jabir explained. “The new commander has been appointed without consulting the provincial council,” Jabir noted. Earlier today, Maj. Gen. Raed Shakir Jawdat was appointed as the new police chief in Wassit province succeeding Maj. Gen. Abdelhanin Hammoud al-Amir, who has been moved to another position at the headquarters of the ministry in Baghdad, in accordance with a cabinet decision. Kut, the capital city of Wassit province, lies 180 km southeast of Baghdad. SS (P) 3
