1,750 displaced persons in Kirkuk to vote in local elections

KIRKUK / IraqiNews.com: A total of 1,750 displaced persons in Kirkuk city will participate in the upcoming provincial council elections, scheduled to take place later this month. “The voters will head to 10 electoral centers, including six in Kirkuk city and four in affiliated districts,” the head of the Independent High Electoral Commission’s (IHEC) office in Kirkuk, Farhad al-Talabani, told IraqiNews.com news agency. Hundreds of families have arrived in Kirkuk from central and southern Iraqi provinces throughout the past few years as a result of deteriorating security conditions. The provincial council elections are due to be held on January 31 in 14 out of 18 Iraqi provinces. Kirkuk, an oil-rich and mixed city of Kurds, Turkmen, Christians and Arabs, lies 250 km northeast of the capital Baghdad. SS (P) 1
