MP accuses parliament of negligence in electoral monitoring

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The head of the Iraqi Umma Party, Methal al-Alusi, on Saturday accused the Iraqi parliament of negligence in its financial monitoring of the electoral ads of parties participating in the upcoming provincial election. “The parliament was supposed to pass parties’ law and activate the role of Board of Supreme Audit to question parties for spending millions of U.S. dollars on electoral campaigns,” al-Alusi told IraqiNews.com news agency. “Fancy campaigns and buying votes render financial and administrative corruption,” he said. “Some powerful parties are using the state’s funds to finance their campaigns,” he added. “This explains the absence of services and state-owned institutions’ final audits,” he noted.
