UN will deploy 400 monitors during election – de Mistura

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: UN Representative in Iraq Staffan de Mistura on Thursday said that the UN will deploy 400 international observers in Iraq to follow up the process of provincial elections in the country. “Security is still a problem in Iraq that prevents monitors from being deployed throughout the country,” de Mistura told IraqiNews.com news agency. “We should admit that Iraqis in their different components would be the best to monitor each other,” he said. “The role of the international organization would be exclusive to providing the required help,” he added. “The final decision about electoral violations is related to the IHEC,” he noted.
