Maliki chairs 1st meeting for Supreme Council for Population

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Supreme Council for the Population in Iraq, held its first meeting on Wednesday chaired by the Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.

A statement by the Prime Minister’s Office received by Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com) quoted al-Maliki as saying “The formation of this Council is a step on the road for building scientific state which is based on statistics and strategies,” calling for “A unified strategy for all of Iraq in the area of ??growth population, and dealing with very high growth rate according to the fact that Iraq’s population is among the high growing countries in the world.”

Maliki said that “Population policy is linked to the overall strategies of the state in other areas,” stressing the need for “Paying attention to the factors influencing the population policy and those related to the organization of media campaigns on women, child’s health, education and others.”

The statement noted that “The Council includes the ministers of planning, finance, construction, housing, health, labor and social affairs, the State ministry for Women’s Affairs, Youth and Sports, Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research, Culture and Planning in the Kurdistan Regional Government, in addition to the heads of Shiite and Sunni endowments and the Board of Christian, Izidi and Sabean Mandaean.” End/
