Investigation committee in Kirkuk ‘late’ – MP

Kirkuk-Committee BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: MP from the Kurdistan Islamic Union, Sami al-Atroushi, said on Monday that the investigation committee in Kirkuk is so late in its mission. “The committee will not be able to present its report in March, according to the article 22 of the elections law,” al-Atroushi told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The committee should start its mission after its formation, but this did not happen,” he added. “I can say now that there would be no elections in Kirkuk in the near future,” he also said. “All citizens in Iraq’s provinces enjoyed their right in selecting representatives in the recent provincial council elections and Kirkuk’s residents impatiently look for a law for holding elections in the oil-rich province,” the lawmaker explained. Kirkuk is 250 km northeast of Baghdad. SH (P)/SR 1
