Hakim,  Maliki discuss political developments

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The head of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council, Ammar al-Hakim, stressed “The necessity of differentiating between the gunmen and the demonstrators who practice peaceful demonstration right.”

A statement by the SIIC reported on Saturday “Hakim met on last Friday with Premier, Nouri al-Maliki where Hakim confirmed that “carrying weapons against the security forces and state departments is illegitimate an outlaw action.”

“The army forces represent strength of the state and the political process,” the SIIC head added noting “the government dealt flexibly with the demonstrators’ demands and met a lot of them.”

Concerning the results of the local elections, Hakim said “The most important thing is to commit to the pledges the winning slates made during the electoral propagandas to establish successful administration for the country which fulfill well-being for the citizens.”

For his part, “Maliki emphasized the need for cooperation among the winning entities in the recent elections to form strong local governments across the country.”
