Supreme Criminal Court listens to petitioners

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi Supreme Criminal Court on Tuesday resumed its session regarding the Halabcha case, to listen to petitioners filing for personal gain, according to Chief Justice Arif al-Shaheen, the court’s head. “The court’s second criminal committee related to the Halabcha case resumed its sessions today headed by Justice Mohammed Uraiby al-Khaleefa,” Chief Justice al-Shaheen told IraqiNews.com news agency. “All the defendants in this case who were high ranking figures of the former regime attended the session, including Ali Hassan al-Majeed, Sultan Hashim ,and Sabir Abdulaziz al-Dori,” he said. Halabcha city (83 km southeast of al-Sulaimaniya) had been attacked with Chemical weapons in Mar. 16, 1988. Kurdish sources accuse the former Iraqi regime of conducting the attack, and claim that five thousand civilians were killed and 10 thousand others were wounded in the campaign. MH (P)/SR 1
