Open uni. inaugurated in Ninewa’s Hamdaniya district
NINEWA / IraqiNews.com: The first open university in Ninewa’s al-Hamdaniya district was inaugurated on Thursday during a celebration attended by several local officials. “The university will provide an opportunity for a wide range of people who could not continue their education due to circumstances beyond their control,” the chairman of the university’s board of directors, Istifan Yilda Kromi, told IraqiNews.com. There are over a 200 staff in the university from local residents, Kromi noted. Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad. The original city of Mosul stands on the west bank of the Tigris River, opposite the ancient biblical city of Nineveh on the east bank, but the metropolitan area has now grown to encompass substantial areas on both banks, with five bridges linking the two sides. There are different communities in Mosul like Christians, Shiites and Kurds along with a Sunni majority. Hamdaniya is a Christian dominated district. SS (P) 1
