Roman-era tomb unearthed in Tikrit

SALAH AL-DIN / IraqiNews.com: A tomb dating back to the ancient Roman times was unearthed by mere coincidence in the city of Tikrit on Sunday, according to the Salah al-Din deputy governor. “A group of workers from a local company carrying out a sewage project in the area of al-Pasha street in central Tikrit found some necklaces and jars inside a tomb most probably dating back to the Roman era, three centuries before Islam,” Abdullah Hussein Jabara told IraqiNews.com news agency. Jabara appealed to the ministry of tourism & antiquities to accelerate excavations and restoration works in dozens of archeological sites all over Salah al-Din province and to embark on the Tikrit Museum project. Tikrit, the capital city of Salah al-Din, lies 175 km north of Baghdad. AmR (P) 1
