3 Katyusha rockets defused in Wassit

WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: Iraqi security forces on Friday defused three Katyusha rockets, which were ready to be fired toward the MNF’s Camp Delta Base in western Kut, a security source said. “Police forces found three Katyusha rockets in al-Ahrar district in western Kut,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency, noting that the rockets were prepared to be launched towards the MNF’s Camp Delta Base. “The operation was based on intelligence information with the aid of some citizens,” the source added. “The rockets were defused by anti-bombs squad,” he also said. “The MNF’s Camp Delta Base was attacked by ten Katyusha rockets on Thursday (1-1-2009) and was attacked also on Wednesday (31-12-2009) by two Katyusha rockets. A Shiite province, Wassit, 180 km south of Baghdad, is in the east of the country. Its name comes from the Arabic word meaning “middle,” as it lies along the Tigris about midway between Baghdad and Basra.Its major cities include the capital, al-Kut, and al-Hayy.
